The American Fisheries Society published Matthew Sloat's article " What the Taimen Said: An Urgent Call for Conservation of the World’s Largest Salmonids". Five species of the genera Hucho and Parahucho are briefly described, a map of their ranges is shown.

An important event occurred in 2012 - the status of all species of taimens in the IUCN Red List was assessed. The most important method of cjnserving species is the increase in public responsibility and recognition of the value of species, the development of the "catch-release" principle.

At the same time taimens are recognized as flag and umbrella species, charismatic symbols of aquatic ecosystems.
